Chromosome, Chromatin

 投稿者:Mitsuo Saitoh  投稿日:2013年 7月14日(日)14時54分45秒
  Chromosome
A rod- or thread-shaped body occurring within the nucleus and which is readily stained by various dyes, hence its name. A chromosome is composed of DNA or RNA, and protein. Each chromosome is in the form of a long helix of DNA. Chromosomes mostly occur in pairs called homologous chromosomes. They are composed of thousands of genes which give rise to and control particular characteristics and functions of the organisms, such as eye colour, and which are passed on through the offspring by inheritance. Each organism has a consistant number of chromosomes, e.g. in human cells, 23pairs.

Chromatin
A granular compound of nucleic acid and protein in the chromosome and which is strongly stained by certain dyes.

  Nucleus
A body present within the cells of eukaryotic organisms which contains the chromosomes of the organisms. Nuclear
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_nucleus

Nuclear membrane
The firm, double unit membrane surrounding the nucleus and seperating it from the cytoplasm while allowing the exchange of materials between the nucleus and the cytoplasm through its pores.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_membrane

Nucleolus
A small, round dense body, one or two of which may be present within the nucleus. It is rich in RNA and protein but is not contained within a membrane.

  Chloropast
In plants only, the plastid containing chlorophyll and the site of photosynthesis. It is always bounded by a double unit membrane.
Words: chloroplast envelope (2 membranes), plastoglobuli, granum (stack of thylakoids),  intergranal thylakoid, stroma, starch grain

Chlorophyll
A green pigment found in the chloroplasts of plants which is important in photosynthesis. There are two forms of chlorophyll, chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b.

  Plastid
In plants, except bacteria, blue green algae, and fungi, a membrane bounded body in the cytoplasm which contains DNA, pigments, and food reserves.

  Lysosomes
Spherical bodies that occur that in the cytoplasm of cells. They are bounded by membranes and contain enzymes which may be released to destroy unwanted organelles or even whole cells.

Microtubule
A fibrous structure made of protein found in the cytoplasm. They may occur singly in in bundies. Their function may be cellular tranport.e.g. the spindle fibres in nulear division.

Microfilament
A very fine, thread-like structure made of protein which occurs in the cytoplasm ofmost cells.

Mitochondoria

  Mitochondria
Rod-shaped bodies in the cytoplasm of a cell. They are bounded by two unit membranes which the inner is folded inwards into crests or cristae. Cell respiration and energy production take place in these bodies and there are more of them in cells that use a lot of energy.
Words: mitochondrion, smooth outer membrane, cristae, matrix.
